5 Things to Inspire Your Kitchen Remodel

Creating the perfect remodel isn’t always easy. Choosing a style that complements your home but also satisfies your wants and needs is a difficult task. To make things more challenging, there isn’t much room to go back once you begin. With that in mind, here are five things to consider when designing your perfect new kitchen.

Can your kitchen entertain?

With the exception of the master bedroom, a kitchen remodel might be the most emotionally charged improvement you can make to your home. Over the past couple of decades, kitchens have become much more than “a room to make food in.” In fact, many kitchens have become the focal, gathering point of a home, with families, more often than not, ditching their fancy dining and family rooms in favor of the communal comfort of their kitchens.

Does your kitchen reflect your personality?

While it’s important to keep the comfort of others in mind when designing your kitchen, it’s still YOUR kitchen! You are the one who will be using it every day, so be sure to include the elements that will make you happy. Do you go through ice faster than the Titanic (too soon?) Be sure to set aside room for a stand-alone ice machine. Want to spend less time cooking? Make sure you have a double oven, and not a single.

Does your home match your designs?

The last thing you want is for your remodel to clash with the rest of your home. While a sleek modern design might look great on its own, it can clash terribly with a traditionally styled home. By mixing styles, you always run the risk of devaluing the existing parts of your home. Before you dive head first into a remodel, make sure its design enhances your home, vs clashing with it.

What made you want a new kitchen in the first place?

Stay true to your original inspiration for remodeling. Whether you’re remodeling to make cooking easier and faster, or because you want to entertain more, your primary motivations for remodel should always be at the forefront of your decision making. While it’s tempting to add wish list items at every stop, if you do not accomplish your initial goal, all your hard work and expense will feel wasted.

What is your budget?

One of the easiest ways to keep yourself grounded in a remodel is to stick to a budget. Choosing between tile and Corian countertops can be a difficult decision, until you take budget into account. The same can be said for choosing between the “world-star dish cleanser 400” and a basic level dish washer, or the six burner stove-top and the four-burner stove top. Use your budget to make some of the tougher decisions for you, and save yourself from the stress of double guessing.
